The stronger (higher grade) the dye, the less color you will add to the gel.

Liquid dyes are preferable to block or dry pigment. Most Gellers prefer the very palest of colors to show off the embedded items. Most oil-based candle dyes will work well. Food dyes and RIT™ dye, are water-soluble and do not mix well with candle gel, though some Gellers have claimed success blending RIT dye with mineral oil.

Crayons have been known to clog the wicks. Color blocks might clump your gel and cause trouble burning. Beware of dyes containing mica or craft grade glitter.

Test your color to find out which works best for you and how much you will need to add for the shades you prefer. When purchasing your candle dye, be sure to let your Supplier know that you will be using the color for gel candles. They will then be able to guide you as to types to use and their percentage ratios.

Use liquid dyes very sparingly. You will find that you need only about 1-2 drops of color per 2 pounds of gel. Colorant can be added at any time. The liquid dye may seem expensive at first purchase, but a little goes a long way! I have found that dipping a swizzle stick into the dye bottle and then placing the smallest dab of color into my pouring pot is more than enough color.

If you find that the color in your pouring pot is too dark, lighten it by adding additional clear gel.

It is not recommend to use flammable items, dead sea creatures, or real food items in gel candles. It is recommended that you double glass your designs, with the wick and gel in the inner glass, away from the design and gel in the outer glass. It is up to the designer to ensure that the design is safe for the end user. You/Designer should provide instructional warnings to end user, especially to not leave any burning candle unattended.

Never leave a burning candle unattended. This material is NOT intended to be used by or made by children under 18 years of age without close adult supervision. Burn candle only on a stable, heat-resistant surface for no more than four hours at a time. If flame gets too large or exposed wick is greater than 1/4 inch, extinguish flame and trim wick. Keep away from drafts and flammable material. Do not allow matches or wick trimmings to fall into melt pool. Never burn the last half of a candle. Do not move while burning or if gel is still hot. Keep wick centered and trimmed to 1/4 inch to prevent smoke and soot buildup. Do not extinquish gel with water -- if possible smother the flame, or use baking soda for small flames, or a fire extrinquisher.
