How long have you been involved with Gel Candles? 5 Years

What prompted your interest in Gel Candles? I had been making paraffin candles for 5 years prior and I was looking for new ways to make candles and ran across gel. The kind of creativity that this medium opened up really got my interest. I got "the bug" and soon had gel boogers every where!

How did you get started with Gel Candles? I ordered some gel, got some shells and sand and started "going to town". I then moved into the fruit preserves.

How did you get started with your business? I had been selling paraffin candles for 5 year before I got into gels. I then sold gels for another couple years, but my interests led elsewhere. As a fledgling geller, I bought wax embeds from those few who had sprung up selling them, but the embeds never seemed to live up to my expectations. Some I had gotten in smelled like cigarette smoke, others were the wrong color: (i.e.: forest green honeydew chunks), still others melted in the gel. So, I started working on making my own embeds and embed blend of wax. When I got the formula down, I realized that there must be others like me out there that were not getting embeds that lived up to their expectations, so I started selling my embeds. This started me down the road of a supplier. Within 6 months, I had a had time being able to make candles and gave up trying. I am now a full-blown supplier and now specialize in molds, especially silicone molds.

What do you like about Gel Candles? Oh, gee, where do I start? The amount of creativity this medium allows is unbelievable! From fruit preserves to fruit pies. From simple seascapes to elaborate scenes with forever candles. Dessert candle are my favorites! There is just so much that can be done!

What do you see ahead for Gel Candles? More creative projects. Things I've never even thought of.

What have you experienced with Gel or your business that has been humorous or unexpected? I never thought that I would be doing what I am today and I'd have to say that if it hadn't been for gel candles, my business wouldn't be what it is today.

It is not recommend to use flammable items, dead sea creatures, or real food items in gel candles. It is recommended that you double glass your designs, with the wick and gel in the inner glass, away from the design and gel in the outer glass. It is up to the designer to ensure that the design is safe for the end user. You/Designer should provide instructional warnings to end user, especially to not leave any burning candle unattended.

Never leave a burning candle unattended. This material is NOT intended to be used by or made by children under 18 years of age without close adult supervision. Keep all candles (gel, soy, wax) away from children. Anyone younger than 18 years of age needs adult supervision to make or handle Gel Candles. safety

Burn candle only on a stable, heat-resistant surface for no more than four hours at a time. If flame gets too large or exposed wick is greater than 1/4 inch, extinguish flame and trim wick. Keep away from drafts and flammable material. Do not allow matches or wick trimmings to fall into melt pool. Never burn the last half of a candle. Do not move while burning or if gel is still hot. Keep wick centered and trimmed to 1/4 inch to prevent smoke and soot buildup. Do not extinquish gel with water -- if possible smother the flame, or use baking soda for small flames, or a fire extrinquisher.
